OIA playoff picture coming into focus

Advertiser Staff

With 'Aiea's 42-0 win against Nanakuli Saturday night, all five playoff spots have been secured in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association Western Division entering the final regular-season weekend for Red (Division I) Conference teams.

Regardless of the outcomes this weekend, the top five seeds will be Mililani (5-0), Wai'anae (4-1), Kapolei (4-2), 'Aiea (3-2) and Leilehua (2-3).In the East, Castle (5-0) and Kahuku (4-1) have the top two seeds. Farrington (3-3), which doesn't play this weekend, is the only other East team to have clinched a playoff berth.

Wins by McKinley (against Castle) and Kailua (against Roosevelt) will give the two the final berths. McKinley, Kailua and Farrington would all be 3-3 and since no one beat both teams, a coin toss would determine the order of seeding.

If Kailua, Kaimuki, McKinley and Roosevelt were to finish with 2-4 records, each team's record against the other three will be the first tiebreaker. McKinley and Roosevelt each would be 2-1 and they would get the final two berths. Roosevelt would be the fourth seed by head-to-head tiebreaker.

In case of a three-way tie with McKinley, Kailua and Roosevelt finishing at 2-4, Roosevelt would secure the fourth seed; McKinley would get the fifth seed by head-to-head tiebreaker.

In the White, there are two regular-season weeks left, but the top three berths have been secured with only one left. Radford (6-0), Moanalua (5-1) and Campbell (4-1) are in. The fourth berth won't be decided this weekend.
