Trade magazine honors Lau

Trade publication US Banker has named Constance Lau, president and chief executive officer of American Savings Bank, among its 25 Most Powerful Women in Banking nationwide.
Lau, No. 11 on the list, will accept the honor Oct. 20 at a gala in New York City. It marks the second year in a row Lau has been named to the Top 25. In 2004, Lau also placed No. 11 and was named "Number 1 Fast-Tracker" for transforming American Savings Bank into a fast-growing player in Hawai'i's banking market.
HMSA DETAILS DRUG PLAN
The Hawaii Medical Service Association yesterday released information on Medicare-approved prescription drug coverage for members of its 65C Plus plan.
HMSA also mailed information packets to all 65C Plus members this week containing information on Medicare Part D and HMSA's 65C Plus Prescription Drug Coverage.
In addition, HMSA has scheduled a series of information sessions this month and next month on O'ahu and the Neighbor Islands. Members can visit www.HMSA .com to determine which medications are covered, and to view a complete schedule of information sessions.
KATRINA'S CLAIMS TALLIED AT $34.4B
NEW YORK — Hurricane Katrina is likely to result in at least $34.4 billion in personal and commercial property loss claims, according to the first publicly released survey of the nation's insurers.
ISO's Property Claim Services Unit said yesterday that the preliminary estimate of damages to homes and businesses in six states would make Katrina the most costly U.S. natural disaster ever.
GEORGIA-PACIFIC TRIMS 1,000 JOBS
ATLANTA — Georgia-Pacific Corp., maker of Brawny paper towels and a variety of other paper and lumber products, said yesterday it is cutting more than 1,000 jobs in a broad restructuring that aims to save $100 million a year.
