TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Lost," 8 p.m., ABC. Since the show's debut, Kate (Evangeline Lilly) has seemed earnest and honest and likable. That leaves viewers wondering just what she had been arrested for. Now comes an episode bluntly titled: "What Kate Did." Meanwhile, Locke and Michael find surprises relating to the computer.

"Christmas in Rockefeller Center," 7 p.m., NBC. It's an all-music night, for people who jump between NBC and PBS. That starts with this live special. The music ranges from young country star (and "American Idol" winner) Carrie Underwood to classic rockers Rod Stewart, Brian Wilson and Earth Wind & Fire. It also has Sheryl Crow, plus the Brian Setzer Orchestra.

OF NOTE

"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," 7 p.m., CBS. Since it debuted in 1964, this animated special has been a favorite with many people. We still consider it flawed but won't grumble about it now.

"The George Lopez Show," 7 p.m., ABC. At work, George belittles his mom, who promptly leaves.

"Freddie," 7:30 p.m., ABC. Esai Morales arrives as Carlos, Freddie's long-absent father.

"Criminal Minds," 8 p.m., CBS. Here is a jolting shift from the previous hour's "Rudolph" special. A teen has been killed, possibly from a satanic ritual; the girl he was with is missing. At least, no one eats venison.

"Gilmore Girls," 8 p.m., WB. Instead of "Related" tonight, we get a rerun of this show's 100th episode, with Lorelai's reunited parents renewing their wedding vows. It's a good episode, with lots of complications.

"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. S. Epatha Merkerson is a terrific actress who won an Emmy this year for her work in HBO's "Lackawanna Blues." She usually has little to do on this show, stuck in management as Lt. Anita Van Buren. Now she gets the spotlight for this episode: A friend's daughter had acid thrown in her face and then (months later) was murdered. Van Buren pushes so hard for an arrest that McCoy worries that she will compromise any court case.
