The Queen's Health Systems has announced a system-wide management reorganization, focused on centralization of key corporate functions and improved efficiency. Announced earlier was the appointment of ARTHUR A. USHIJIMA as president and chief executive officer of The Queen's Health Systems, while continuing in those capacities for The Queen's Medical Center as well.
Also named were:
JOHN NITAO, The Queen's Health Services, vice president, general counsel.
FRANCIS FRAHER, The Queen's Health Services, vice president, finance/treasurer. He continues to serve as Moloka'i General Hospital treasurer.
BERT KIDO, The Queen's Health Services, vice president, human resources (historically a Queen's Medical Center function, now under the health service's jurisdiction).
SHARLENE TSUDA, in a newly-created role, The Queen's Health Services, vice president, corporate services, including responsibility for public/media relations, corporate communications, fund development, government relations, and coordination of the Native Hawaiian Health Program.
MARK YAMAKAWA, who continues to maintain his role as Queen's Development Corp. president, also assumes the title of The Queen's Health Services executive vice president, corporate development. Responsibilities include corporate strategy, marketing, network development, new/joint ventures, facility master planning — being centralized under the health services' auspices —oversight of the Queen's Medical Center facilities operations, and Queens Biomedical Research Center.
TRACY WOO, The Queen's Health Services, executive vice president, asset development, assumes management of the total financial and pension investments of Queen's, along with real estate assets portfolio of The Queen Emma Foundation, a change that centralizes management of these assets. He bears the additional role of foundation executive vice president.
DAN JESSOP, continues as Queen's Medical Center executive vice president/chief operating officer, with role adjustments as he assumes more day-to-day responsibilities for the medical center.
JAN KALANIHUIA continues as president of Moloka'i General Hospital, with responsibility for the hospital's day-to-day operations, and oversight of its facility redevelopment, phase II.
Twenty-year hospitality industry veteran, Jon Gersonde, returns to Hawai'i as manager of the historic 577-room Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Before moving to the Mainland as complex general manager of the Westin Mission Hills Resort and Spa in Rancho Mirage, Calif., he had been general manager of Kapalua Bay Hotel and Ocean Villas. He has also served on Guam and Saipan in food and beverage management for Hyatt International.
MARILYN ISRAEL has been hired as assistant executive director of the Kahala Nui senior living community, with oversight of the newly-opened Hi'olani Care Center. The over-25-year veteran of healthcare, human services and senior housing will oversee the center's plant operations, food service and resident services departments. When fully operational, the facility — with three levels of residential living and care: assisted living, memory support, and skilled nursing for long-term care needs — will be home to about 500 kupuna. Israel will also oversee Kahala Nui University and assist in education efforts of staff and residents. She is former vice president of operations for Balfour Senior Care, Louisville, Colo.; and executive director of the Lodge at Balfour and of Balfour Retirement Community.
Hawaiian Telcom Chief Executive Officer MICHAEL RULEY has been named to the board of directors of the U.S. Telecom Association, the leading national trade and advocacy group for the telecommunications industry. USTelecom represents more than 1,200 companies offering a variety of communications platforms, including voice, video and data, long distance, wireless, Internet and cable. Other key Hawaiian Telcom executives also are represented on USTelecom committees: Alan Oshima, Policy Committee; HARVEY PLUMMER, Joint Engineering and Technology Policy Committee; DANIEL O'BRIEN, Tax/Finance/Employment Policy Committee; JOEL MATSUNAGA, Regulatory and Legislative Tactics committees; and JAMES LaCLAIR, National Security Policy Committee.
PETER VINCENT, principal and managing member of architecture and interior-design firm Peter Vincent & Associates, has been elected 2006 vice president/2007 president-elect of the American Institute of Architects local chapter. He has served on the AIA-Honolulu board of directors. His 2007 presidency will coincide with the national organization's 150th anniversary.
