ACT registration deadline is Jan. 6

College-bound high school students have until Jan. 6 to register to take the ACT exam on the next nationwide test date, Feb. 11.
Normal cost to take the ACT is $29 but for students who choose to take the optional Writing Test the cost is $43. Students can register online at www.actstudent.org or by mail. Registration materials are available from high school guidance counselors.
Students who miss the Jan. 6 postmark deadline can do late registration through Jan. 20 for an additional $18 fee.
The ACT assessment is designed to measure academic achievement in four subject areas: English, reading, math and science. The exam lasts about three hours.
HPU GRADUATION SET FOR JAN. 11
Hawai'i Pacific University will graduate more than 500 associate, baccalaureate and master degree candidates at the university's 62nd commencement ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Waikiki Shell.
Allan Landon, chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer of Bank of Hawaii Corp., will deliver the commencement speech. He also will receive the Fellow of the Pacific Award, the university's highest accolade, in recognition of his outstanding contributions and service to the community and higher education.
Three valedictorians from the on-campus baccalaureate, graduate and military campus programs have been chosen for their outstanding academic performance and also will speak.
ART SCHOLARSHIP TO PAY $10,000
The National Society of Arts and Letters is offering the Namoi Winston $10,000 Scholarship in Art. Young visual artists between the ages of 16 and 22 are encouraged to apply. Applicants must demonstrate exceptional talent and promise of future success.
The scholarship funds are only for private study, for special training or for personal advancement in the applicant's art medium.
