Plane crash victim identified

Maui police identified a Salt Lake City man killed last week in a single-engine plane crash as Alan Gerow, 58.
Gerow was alone and piloting a Cessna 172 rented from Maui Aviators at Kahului Airport when the plane slammed into a hillside Dec. 15 at the 2,400-foot level of Halelakala above Hana. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.

POLICE SEEK HELP IN HOTEL ST. CASE
Police are asking for the public's help in finding two people wanted in connection with the Dec. 13 stabbing death of a 21-year-old man in front of Longs Drug Store on Hotel Street.
The victim was killed after he intervened in an argument between a man and a woman, police said.
Police released a sketch of the suspect in the stabbing. The suspect was in the company of another woman, who was wearing a red blouse, white tennis-type hat and white pants.
Anyone with information about them is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300, or *CRIME on a cellular phone.
WRITING CONTEST WINNERS NAMED
The O'ahu Arts Center has announced the winners of its writing contest, sponsored by Castle & Cooke Homes Dr. Phil and Elsha Bohnert.
Awards of $100 were presented Dec. 9 to Rob Taylor for "Migrations" (fiction), Timothy Lee Denevi for "The Wolfman in Barry Bonds" (non-fiction) and Sandra Krawciw for "Black Cat Cigarettes" (poetry).
"The judges were very impressed by the quality and diversity of the entries, said chairwoman Elsha Bohnert. "The prizes are not large but the honor is very real and reminds us of the tremendous creativity we have in this community."
Other prize winners were: Jonathan Padua, $75, and Rike Weiss, $50 (fiction); Weiss, $75, Patricia Haft, $50, and Martin Alvarez, $25 (non-fiction), and Aaron M. Gilkison, $75, and Rachel Brown, $50 (poetry).
PEARL HARBOR
MISSOURI CLOSED ON BOTH SUNDAYS
The Battleship Missouri Memorial in Pearl Harbor will be closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
The Missouri is usually open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission is $16 for adults and $8 for children 4 to 12 years old. Military and kama'aina rates are $10 adults and $5 children. For more information, call 973-2494.

BOARD CHANGES SITE OF MEETINGS
Pearl City Neighborhood Board meetings will be held at Highlands Intermediate School cafeteria, 1460 Hoolaulea St., beginning Jan. 17. Pearl City Library, where the board has met for years, is unavailable so Highlands Intermediate will be the new permanent location. There is no board meeting scheduled for December.
