Lee picks up where she left off

Menlo (Calif.) sophomore guard Kepua Lee, a 2004 graduate of Moanalua from Honolulu, chipped 75 percent of her front right tooth after taking a fall during a game Sunday night, but managed to return to the game.
Lee finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds, but No. 22 Menlo lost to Dominican, 47-42.
"I got knocked in the air and I just fell flat, and I landed. I didn't hit my nose or chin, but I just fell flat on my tooth," said Lee, who arrived here Monday afternoon on a previously scheduled trip.
"(Sunday) night, it wasn't sore. My team was losing so I just checked myself back into the game (with about six minutes to play)," said Lee, who was calling from her dentist's office. "When I first picked my tooth off the ground, there was a lot of blood. The girls on the other team were teasing me, but I was like, 'What ever.'
"I had to suck a milk shake through a straw for my dinner. I don't have to eat an apple ever again, but I don't want to have a big black gap when I smile," said Lee, who flies back to California Christmas night.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Two days after scoring a career-high 24 points for the Colorado School of Mines, Kyle Pape (Iolani '05) was in attendance at the Iolani Prep Classic Monday night.
"I just gave the (Raiders) a little pep talk," said Pape, who added that he remembered when Iolani lost to Montrose Christian (Rockville, Md.) two years ago on a last-second shot. Iolani played No. 1 Montrose Christian last night.
Pape, The Advertiser State Player of the Year in 2005, is home for about a week and is in no rush to return.
"It was 8 degrees when I left," he said.
Brigham Young junior guard Rashaun Broadus (Mililani '02) had six points, two rebounds and three assists in an 80-54 win over Weber State Saturday.
Washington State sophomore guard Derrick Low (Iolani '04) had four points, four rebounds and three assists in a 61-46 win over Portland Saturday.
FOOTBALL
Tennessee senior defensive tackle Jesse Mahelona (Kealakehe '01 of Kailua, Kona) was invited to play in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., on Jan. 28.
Mahelona was a second-team All-American by Rivals.com and made the Associated Press third team.
Southern California freshman linebacker Kaluka Maiava (Baldwin '05) was named the co-Special Teams Player of the Year for the top-ranked Trojans at the team's awards banquet.
Oregon junior center Enoka Lucas (Kamehameha '02) was named the Ducks' offensive lineman of the year at the team's awards banquet.
Redshirt freshman offensive tackle Max Unger (Hawai'i Prep '04 of Honaunau) was honored for taking part in the most plays and junior offensive guard Palauni Ma Sun Jr. (Kahuku '03 of La'ie) for amassing the most pancake blocks.
Colorado senior defensive tackle Vaka Manupuna (Saint Louis '01 of Kihei) was the recipient of the Regiment Award, for the greatest contribution with the least recognition, voted by the coaching staff and awarded at the team's awards dinner.
Penn State senior linebacker Andy Kubic (Saint Louis of Honolulu) was named to the Big Ten Fall Academic All-Conference Team. Kubic is a civil engineering major.
Los Angeles Valley College freshman linebacker Sione Faleofa (Leilehua '05) was named to the Western State Conference second team.
Dana College (Blair, Neb.) senior offensive lineman Terry Zitkovich Jr. (Radford '00 of Honolulu) was an honorable mention Great Plains Athletic Conference selection.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Brigham Young senior midfielder Charlene Lui (Punahou '02 of Honolulu) was named to the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-West Region second team. Lui, who earned a 3.51 GPA in Finance, was also named to the NSCAA/adidas All-West Region third team.
Duke sophomore goalkeeper Allison Lipsher (Punahou '04 of Hawai'i Kai) was named to the NSCAA/adidas All-Southeast Region second team.
Azusa Pacific (Calif.) junior Jolie Nitta (Mililani '02) and Westmont (Santa Barbara, Calif.) freshman forward Amy Lawson (Iolani '05 of Honolulu) were named to the NSCAA/adidas NAIA Women's All-Region II team.
MEN'S SOCCER
Southern Methodist senior forward Duke Hashimoto (Iolani '02 of Kapolei) was named to the College Soccer News All-America third team. He was also named to the NSCAA/adidas All-Midwest Region first team.
Santa Rosa Junior College (Calif.) freshman defender Holden Lau (Roosevelt '05) was named to the NSCAA/adidas Junior College Division III All-West Region second team.
SWIMMING
UC Irvine sophomores Chelsea Nagata (Maui '04 of Kahului) and Randall Tom (Seabury Hall '04 of Wailuku) each won two events at a dual meet with UC Davis Sunday.
Nagata won the 50 (24.03) and 100 free (52.38), and Tom won the 200 individual medley with a UCI record time of 1:50.57 and the 200 breaststroke (2:04.03).
