Writings by troops, loved ones in book
Associated Press
WASHINGTON — Writings between soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan and their families on the home front are to get an anthology of their own.
"Above and Beyond" will be published in September by Random House. It results from a project called "Operation Homecoming," sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, that urged Americans to preserve such writings before they disappear.
There will be about 100 brief pieces culled from more than 9,000 pages of letters and other writings — e-mails, short stories, memoirs and poems.
Copies of the book will be given to schools, libraries and military installations.
