Alaska Anchorage tops BYUH in basketball

Kemmy Burgess scored 18 points to lead Alaska Anchorage to a 90-80 victory over Brigham Young-Hawai'i in the Glacier Classic basketball tournament at Fairbanks, Alaska yesterday.
Alaska Anchorage is 7-3, BYUH is 2-2.
Austin Smylie had a game-high 27 points for BYUH. Paul Peterson added 20 points for the Seasiders.
The Seawolves shot 64 percent, while the Seasiders shot 58 percent. Anchorage was 24 for 24 in free-throw attempts.
BYUH led 31-29 at halftime.
CAL STATE BAKERSFIELD RALLIES PAST HPU
Richard Andrews scored 18 points to help rally Cal State Bakersfield to an 82-73 non-conference basketball victory over Hawai'i Pacific last night in Bakersfield, Calif.
Bakersfield is 4-0. HPU is 1-5.
Joseph Ison scored a game-high 25 points for HPU.
HPU led 38-34 at halftime.
Carl Damus had a game-high 15 rebounds for the Roadrunners.
HPU plays at Grand Canyon in Phoenix today.
ALOHA STADIUM
PARKING LOT ALCOHOL BAN HEARING ON DEC. 21
A public hearing on the proposed alcohol ban in the Aloha Stadium parking lot will be held Dec. 21, 6 p.m. at Aloha Stadium, according to stadium spokesman Patrick Leonard.
The Aloha Stadium Authority this month approved a recommendation to ban beer and alcohol consumption in the stadium's 8,000-stall parking lot before, during and after regular-season collegiate sporting events.
The proposed ban is on track to be enforced at University of Hawai'i football games in 2006. The Hula Bowl, the Pro Bowl and the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl are exempt from the proposal.

IOLANI SEEKS GIRLS VARSITY CROSS-COUNTRY COACH
Iolani School is seeking applicants for the girls' varsity cross country team.
The Raiders need a replacement for Karl Honma, who resigned after one season for personal reasons, according to athletic director Carl Schroers.

HIGH SCHOOL SHOWCASE, TOURNAMENT IN JANUARY
A showcase for Hawai'i high school players and a Perfect Game team tournament will be coming here next month.
The Hawai'i High School Showcase for players grades 9 to 12 is Jan. 7 and 8 at Les Murakami Stadium. Then from Jan. 13 to 16, the first 18-under Perfect Game Winter Baseball Championship Series also will be at the UH facility.
Mike Spiers, West Coast supervisor for Perfect Game, said the showcase will evaluate players and make the information available to college recruiters and pro scouts. Cost is $495 per player. Spiers said sponsorships are available for players who might not be able to afford the fee.
The Perfect Game tournament, which will feature club teams from the Mainland and a selected team of players from the Hawai'i showcase, will give players exposure to colleges here.

UH WINTER CAMPS BEGIN ON DEC. 21
The University of Hawai'i's annual Winter Baseball Camps are coming up in the next couple of weeks.
A pitcher/catcher camp will be held 9 a.m. to noon and a hitting camp will be conducted from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 21 to 23. The same camps will be available at the same times Dec. 28 to 30. All of the sessions will be at Les Murakami Stadium.
Cost is $120 per camp or $200 for both camps in each session.
Registration is 8 a.m. for the morning camps and noon for the afternoon camps in each session.
