2 critically hurt in one-car crash

Two men were critically injured early yesterday morning in a car crash on Manoa Road.

Police traffic investigators said a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse, which may have been speeding, crashed into a rock wall and tree near Uluwehi Place at 2:20 a.m. The driver, 20, and passenger, 19, were taken to The Queen's Medical Center with critical injuries, police said.

KANEWAI POOL TO CLOSE DEC. 13-15

Kanewai Community Pool will be closed during portions of its regular operating hours Dec. 13-15 for chlorination and annual maintenance.

The pool will close during the evening swim period Dec. 13, all day Dec. 14 and during the morning of Dec. 15.

The pool will reopen from 2 to 5 p.m. Dec. 15 and again from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The nearest public swimming pool is at Palolo Valley District Park at 2007 Palolo Ave.

WAIKIKI

CHANTS WILL BE PERFORMED

Samuel M. Ohukani'ohi'a Gon III, conservation biologist and cultural advisor for the Nature Conservancy of Hawai'i, will perform spontaneous chants at the Waikiki Community Center's Hawaiian Plant Garden at 9:30 a.m. today. The center is at 310 Paoakalani Ave.

Gon also will discuss the history of Hawai'i and its plants and natural resources.

The event is free, but parking and seating is limited. Call 923-1802 for more information.


KAILUA

REPAVING WORK SWITCHES SIDES

Repaving work on Kalaniana'ole Highway between Castle Medical Center and Castle Junction is switching over to the Honolulu-bound lanes this week, the state Department of Transportation said.

One town-bound lane of Kalaniana'ole Highway will be closed from the hospital to Kapa'a Quarry Road today through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for resurfacing work.

Motorists are advised to allow for more travel time.

The resurfacing of the Kailua-bound lanes began in September and was completed last week.

MOLOKA'I



MOLOKA'I LIBRARY CLOSED TODAY

The 68-year-old Moloka'i Public Library will be closed today so its exterior can get a new coat of paint.

The library is scheduled to reopen at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The book drop also will be closed.

Library patrons can visit the state public library system Web site, www.librarieshawaii.org, to browse book titles, eBooks, digital audio books and online databases.
