TONIGHT'S MIGHT-SEE

"Have No Fear: The Life of Pope John Paul II," 7 p.m., ABC. On Sunday, CBS starts its four-hour miniseries about the late pope. First, here's ABC's effort — shorter, softer, quite modulated. It portrays Karol Wojtyla as a decent and intellectual man who avoided confrontation. We see others criticize him for avoiding violent resistance to Nazi rule. We also see him trying to silence Archbishop Oscar Romero, a critic of Salvadoran tyranny. The film shows the pope torn by self-doubt after Romero is slain. Thomas Kretschmann offers a shaded portrayal of an internal man. Jeff Bleckner, the award-winning director of "Concealed Enemies" and "Serving in Silence," provides a darkly attractive film.

OF NOTE

"The O.C.," 7 p.m., Fox. Choices of colleges might split up Seth and Summer, which pleases Taylor.

"Joey," 7 p.m., NBC. In this rerun, Joey takes a class so he can be near a woman he likes. The class, however, is English as a second language.

"Will & Grace," 7:30 p.m., NBC. This rerun has Grace grumbling about what she calls "greeting card holidays." Then she falls for a handsome card-writer (Ed Burns). Meanwhile, Will and Jack dance with a lesbian couple, played by Chita Rivera and Michele Lee.

"Apprentice," 8 p.m., NBC. The final four contestants do a project for Microsoft.

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m., CBS. Here is a rerun of the season opener. In one story, two people are found dead in their trailer after a gas explosion; in another, a stripper is killed in a low-income part of town.

"Yesterday," 7 p.m., HBO. This film, airing on World AIDS Day, puts a human face on the African crisis as a village woman is diagnosed with AIDS. Created by the people behind "Sarafina" and "Cry, the Beloved Country," the movie makes rich use of the sprawling landscape of South Africa's Zululand. It received an Academy Award nomination for best foreign-language film.

"ER," 9 p.m., NBC. This is a key episode in the relationship between Neela and Gallant. Meanwhile, Kovac and Clemente compete for the same job.

"Without a Trace," 9 p.m., CBS. Here is a rerun of the season-opener, which started with the aftermath of a shooting.
