Raiola up for national honors

Wisconsin senior center Donovan Raiola, a 2001 Kamehameha graduate from Honolulu, was named to two preseason football watch lists.

Raiola was one of 123 members named to the Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List, given annually to the nation's top lineman, offense or defense.

Raiola was also named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List, honoring the nation's most outstanding center, for the second straight season.

Raiola, who is 6 feet 3 and 290 pounds, was selected to the Rimington Trophy preseason watch list in March. Last season he started every game and was an honorable mention All-Big Ten pick.

Tennessee senior defensive tackle Jesse Mahelona, a 2001 Kealakehe graduate from Kailua, Kona, was also named to the Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List.

ACADEMICS

  • Maryland senior gymnast Mandy Pascual (Punahou '01 of 'Aiea) and Duke sophomore cross country runner Tia Ferguson (Seabury Hall '04) were named to the Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll for 2004-05.

    WOMEN'S SOCCER

  • Idaho State junior defender Jennifer Loo (Mililani '03) scored a goal in a 6-0 win over Rocky Mountain College in an exhibition game Aug. 20. Loo scored in the 69th minute, rebounding the ball after a teammate's shot was deflected.

    WOMEN'S TENNIS

  • Former Santa Clara player Janalle Kaloi (Kamehameha '01 of Wahiawa) finished her eligibility second on the school's singles and doubles career wins list. She won 65 singles and 62 doubles matches.
