Schofield soldiers with 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team returning home
More than 160 soldiers with Schofield Barracks’ 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team are scheduled to return home from Iraq on Monday night.
The ceremony — tentatively scheduled for 9 p.m. — marks the beginning of the return of approximately 3,400 3rd Brigade soldiers who deployed to northern Iraq in October of 2008.
The “Bronco Brigade” soldiers operated in the Salah ad Din Province. Completed projects include: 60 school renovations, seven new schools, 52 water projects providing new wells and water treatment facilities, 11 electricity distribution and infrastructure renovations, enhancements to hospitals and clinics, and transportation improvements, officials said.
Three soldiers with the 3rd Brigade were killed in combat on the deployment. Three other deaths in Iraq were noncombat-related.
