Budget constraints force Honolulu Symphony to postpone concerts

Advertiser Staff

The Honolulu Symphony announced today it is postponing its Nov. 7 and Nov. 8 concerts featuring Haydns choral masterwork The Creation 2010, because of financial constraints.

Ticketholders can move their tickets to the rescheduled performance in 2010 at a date to be determined or to any of the upcoming Honolulu Symphony Halekulani MasterWorks or Honolulu Symphony Toyota Pops concerts in the 2009-2010 season.
In a news release announcing the decision, Symphony officials stated the decision to reschedule the concerts to later in the season is in keeping with the Honolulu Symphonys commitment to the community that it will not stage productions unless fully supported by the current budget.
The Honolulu Symphony is committed to financial responsibility and to the promise it made to the community moving forward to safeguard the well-being of this 110-year-old cultural organization,Majken Mechling, executive director of the Honolulu Symphony stated in the release. Rescheduling the concerts is the responsible choice, although we are disappointed that the budget will not allow us to offer performances of Haydns beautiful Creation to the community at this time. We anticipate that we will reschedule this concert to later in the season.
Ticketholders can contact the Honolulu Symphony Box Office, 792-2000, to reschedule their tickets.
