A gathering of former University of Hawai'i women's soccer players will try to eke out some semblance of their former playing days as they take on the current squad in the Rainbow Wahine annual alumnae game tomorrow.

The game starts at 7 p.m. at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

The alums range from a player from the first year of the program, Joni (Abel) Fisher (1994), wife of UH men's associate head volleyball coach Dan Fisher, to last year's graduating class, which includes 2008 Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year Taryn Fukuroku and 2007 WAC Defensive Player of the Year Tehane Higa.

The most famous graduate of the program, Natasha Kai, is not playing as she recovers from surgery.

Some players are still involved in the program — Amanda Paterson is the director of compliance at UH, Jessica Domingo is a color commentator for K5, Adria Campbell helps out with stats at the games, Kristen Oshiro (not playing) is the PA announcer and Fukuroku is a student assistant coach. Others went on to coach elsewhere: Wanette (Miyashiro) Shirafuji at 'Aiea and Erin (Schremser) Studt at Kapolei, along with various others who coach youth club teams.

They went on to become police officers such as Carmel Hurley, engineers such as Lea (Wakabayashi) Nakayama, and teachers such as Shirafuji and Studt. Many of the younger players are still in school, either pursuing their undergraduate or graduate degrees.
