CFB Bottom Ten: Combining the bottom two would create Eastern Western

By Steve Harvey
Special to the Los Angeles Times

All of Eastern Michigans fumbles, errant passes and missed tackles wont mean a thing if the EMUs fail to goof up one more time.

They need a clutch loss against No. 7 Akron (2-9) Saturday to win the Bottom Ten title.
Thats because theyre being pressed by the No. 2 Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky (0-10), owners of an 18-game losing streak, longest in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
Of course, even Western Kentucky will be hard pressed to record another defeat Saturday since its matched against No. 13 Florida Atlantic (3-7).
Talk about an exciting weekend of football.
Florida Atlantic, by the way, is coming off a 21-47 loss to the winningest Trojans team in America Troy (Ala.) University (8-3).
Wreck, Record; Last Loss; Next Loss
1. Eastern Michigan (0-11); 21-47, Toledo; Akron
2. Western Kentucky (0-10); 18-21, Louisiana-Monroe; Florida Atlantic
3. Miami (O) (1-11); 9-42, Buffalo; Done
4. Washington State (1-10); 10-42, Oregon State; Washington
5. Maryland (2-9); 26-29, Florida State; Boston College
6. San Jose State (1-9); 10-17, Hawaii; New Mexico State
7. Akron (2-9); 20-36, Bowling Green; Eastern Michigan
8. Arkansas State (2-8); 14-38, Middle Tennessee; North Texas
9. North Texas (2-9); 13-17, Army; Arkansas State
10. Michigan (5-7); 10-21, Ohio State; In hiding
11. Arizona State (4-7); 12. Ball State (2-10); 13. Florida Atlantic (3-7); 14. Colorado (3-8) or Colorado State (3-8) (take your pick); 15. New Mexico (1-10); 16. Ill. (3-7); 17. Memphis (2-9); 18. North Carolina State (4-7); 19. Taking the weekend off; 20. Notre Dame (winless in November).
Crummy game of the week: Eastern Michigan (0-11) at Akron (2-9).
Rout of the week: New Mexico (1-10) at TCU (11-0) (children not permitted to see this slaughter.)
Dishonorable mention: Apparently the tension of the Bottom Ten race became too much for previously winless New Mexico, which ruined its chances of a defeated season by beating Colorado State, 29-27.
