It's not often that the Arcadia Retirement Residence opens its annual estate jewelry sale to the public. It's a great opportunity to pick up unique and valuable watches and jewelry at amazing bargains. They have the items — and there are hundreds — appraised, then mark the price at one-half the appraised value. Prices range from $4 to $4,000. It's a fundraiser to provide special services for Arcadia's health care center patients.

The sale is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Women's Building at Central Union Church, 1660 Punahou St.

ROCK SHOP AT FIRST FRIDAY

Anne Au's Rock Shop pop-up boutique will be in Chinatown tonight for First Friday, from 3 to 8 p.m. at a new location: Coral Loft, 1133A Smith St. Local designers include Cloth and MCK Metal, along with a sample sale of Billabong, Indah and Insight.

UGG AUSTRALIA NOW IN WAIKIKI

UGG Australia, the company that started out with a pair of funky, furry comfy boots and grew into an international footwear and accessories brand, has opened a store in the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort. The 1,700-square-foot store will carry the company's complete lines for women, men and children.

'COCO BEFORE CHANEL' OPENS

Anyone who has lusted after a Chanel jacket or been grateful for all the innovations the brilliant designer brought to women (the little black dress, menswear influences, sportswear, to name a few) and those she left behind such as corsets, will appreciate the film "Coco Before Chanel." The sumptuous period piece starring Audrey Tautou and written and directed by Anne Fontaine opens today at Kahala Mall.

It traces the designer's life from her childhood of poverty in an orphanage through her tempestuous love life and her career catapulting from tailor's assistant and milliner to the premier couturier of her day — and possibly the most influential fashion icon of the 20th century.

The film is inspired by Chanel's amazing individuality, confidence and determination, but her vulnerability also comes through in the subtlety of Tautou's performance. Her story continues in another movie opening this year: "Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky."

SMASHBOX MAKEUP ARTISTS IN HONOLULU

Lori Taylor, Smashbox Cosmetics' lead makeup artist, will be available to meet with customers from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Sephora in Pearlridge Center. In addition, from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Taylor and Smashbox makeup artist Hank Hoffman will be at Nordstrom Ala Moana Center for a special "Meet the Pros" reception.

CLIPA THAT HANDBAG

This handy little gadget will keep your handbag, backpack, tote, diaper bag or laptop case off the ground and protected from grime and germs.

The Clipa hooks onto a table, counter, shopping cart, stroller, fence or chair arm or back. It's also ideal for a restroom stall that doesn't have a hook. It clips right onto your bag so you don't have to fish around for it, or you can wear it as a bangle when it's not in use. It comes in silver, gold and some fashion colors such as pink so it can blend in with most handbag hardware.

It's made of high strength zinc alloy and can hold up to 45 pounds.

Clipa sells for $20 at Le Muse, Riches Kahala, Silver Moon Emporium, The Local Gentry, Stephanie C, the Sandal Tree stores and Tapestries.
