HILO
Police looking for 2 women after similar home burglaries

Hawai'i County police are investigating two burglaries that happened Friday in the Hilo area involving two women who gained entry into homes.

South Hilo officers responded to a home on West Kawailani Street after the owner reported that two women, claiming to be relatives of the occupants, persuaded the elderly occupants to let them into the home.

Once inside, one woman said that she needed to use the bathroom. The second woman distracted the occupants while the first woman apparently walked throughout the residence. After the strangers left, the occupants discovered that an undisclosed sum of money was missing.

A similar robbery was reported later Friday afternoon at a home on West Puainako Street.

One woman is described as being between 30 and 40 years old, about 5 feet 5 and 150 pounds. She may be pregnant.

The other woman is described as being between 30 and 40 years old, about 5 feet 4 and 130 pounds.

They were driving either a red or maroon four-door car, possibly a hatchback or station wagon.
