Motorcycle crash leaves 1 dead, 1 critically injured in Waialua
A woman who appeared to be in her 20s was killed and another woman apparently in her 20s was critically injured when their motorcycle crashed this afternoon on Kaukonahua Road in Waialua, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's emergency services department.
Police closed both lanes of Kaukonahua Road for nearly four hours as they conducted their investigation. The road was re-opened around 4 p.m.
The dead woman appears to be the operator of the motorcycle and the injured woman apparently was her passenger, Cheplic said.
The woman who was killed was pronounced dead at 12:28 p.m. and the critically injured woman was taken to a trauma center, Cheplic said.
Honolulu police have closed Kaukonahua Road in both directions to investigate the crash. The closure extends from Thomson Corner to the top of the S-Turn, police said.
