Essential tools for Dad's workshop

When a 1955 Morris Traveler turned up on eBay two years ago, Jeff Griswold snapped it up and had it shipped from Washington state to Hawai'i.
In his home woodshop in Kailua, the weekend woodworker took the car apart, installed a Sprite Midget 1275 engine and lovingly refitted the iconic British car's interior: custom-made bucket leather seats, authentic maroon upholstery, and an ash wood dashboard, fittings and trim that classic car restorers would die for.
"It's an early '55 model which is quite rare ... left-hand transmission, easy to drive; it's a small woody," he said.
Griswold loves to drive his Morris but restoring it was just as much fun, stemming from a love of carpentry that began in high school with a great instructor.
Over the years, he's furnished his house with beautiful pieces, taught his sons woodwork and entered his furniture in the prestigious Hawai'i's Woodshow.
With Father's Day coming up, Griswold suggested these tools for the home shop, with a caution: "Check what Dad already has in his toolbox," he said, "because a second one will be useless!" As with most tools, costs vary depending on how much you want to spend. Prices are approximate.
