Carrying on a heralded family legacy, Punahou's Kristin Lim finished her high school tennis career in dominant fashion.

Following in the footsteps of state champion brothers Robby and Mikey, Kristin won a doubles state title as a freshman, then became only the fifth girl since singles competition first began in 1962 to win three individual state championships.

She capped an undefeated senior season with a 6-1, 6-7, 6-1 victory over Lahainaluna's Jackie Owens. Before that match, Lim had not dropped a set all season and lost only three games along the way.

This is despite taking on double duty due to injuries to teammates and playing in both singles and doubles matches to help the Buffanblu go 16-0 in the regular season.

In Lim's four years on the varsity, Punahou won four ILH and four state team championships, with her serving as co-captain this past season.

Last year, the USTA Hawai'i Pacific Section recognized Lim with the "Jim Howe Sportsmanship Award."

This past winter, she "took a chance" and tried out for the Buffanblu soccer team despite being away from the sport for several years. Coach Matt Martinson said Lim "trained diligently to regain her touch and soccer fitness, and she demonstrated undying determination, a willingness to learn and a fierce competitiveness that inspired the rest of the team."

Coach Martinson added that Lim "earned the respect of teammates ... and modeled dedication and enthusiasm that raised the level of play. I consider her a strong contributing factor to the 2009 state championship," he said.

Off the court and field, Lim maintained a 3.7 grade-point average while taking AP courses in chemistry, physics and calculus, and she was a member of Punahou's Key Club, participating in school and community service.

Lim will attend Cornell University this fall.
