The state Department of Land and Natural Resources reopened the Kula Forest Reserve and Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area on Maui today.
The areas were closed for public safety due to forecasts of possible high winds and potential for danger from falling trees. State forestry crews inspected the reserve access road and determined the road was safe for four-wheel drive vehicle access.
"We thank the public for their patience and cooperation with this brief closure in the interest of public safety," said Laura H. Thielen, DLNR chairwoman.
