Punahou, Kahuku earn top seeds for state girls basketball championships

Punahou and Kahuku earned the No. 1 seeds for this week's Hawaiian Airlines/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Girls Basketball State Championships.
Defending champion Punahou is the top seed in the Division I bracket. The Buffanblu, the Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion, receive a first-round bye and face the winner of Tuesday's Kalani-'Aiea game in Wednesday's quarterfinals at Farrington.
Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Konawaena is seeded second, followed by O'ahu Interscholastic Association champion Farrington and Maui Interscholatic League champion Lahainaluna.
First-round games begin on Tuesday at Farrington and Kaimuki. The championship game is Friday at 7 p.m. at the Blaisdell Arena.
Kahuku, the OIA White champion, is the No. 1 seed in Division II. The Red Raiders receive a first-round bye and face the winner of Tuesday's Kapa'a-St. Andrew's game in Wednesday's quarterfinals at Kalani.
BIIF champion Kamehameha-Hawai'i is seeded second, followed by ILH champion Maryknoll and MIL champion Moloka'i.
First-round games begin on Tuesday at Kalani and Radford. The championship game is Friday at 5 p.m. at the Blaisdell Arena.
