HEERENVEEN, Netherlands � Shani Davis of the United States held off the Dutch challenge to win the 1,500-meter speedskating race at a World Cup meet Saturday.

Davis won in 1 minute, 45.40 seconds, beating Italian Enrico Fabris by 0.48 seconds. Trevor Marsicano of the US was third in 1:46.09, followed by teammate Chad Hedrick in fourth.

Dutchman Sven Kramer, the European and World Allround champion, was sixth.

Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic won the women's 5,000 in 6:59.08 to beat Stephanie Beckert of Germany and Kristina Groves of Canada.
