Volunteers sought for Waimanalo cleanup

Organizers of a large-scale cleanup and recycling effort for Waimänalo are seeking 100 volunteers to sort recyclable material and assist in curbside pick-up of bulky items from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 9 at Waimänalo Beach Park.

Scrap metal, including vehicles and appliances, cellular phones, printer cartridges, batteries, tires, magazines, Christmas trees and more will be accepted. For a full list of acceptable items, visit www.huihawaii.org.
The cleanup is being organized by Hui o Koçolaupoko and the Oçahu Resource Conservation & Development Council with support from Schnitzer Steel Hawaii, the city and state Department of Health.
Volunteers are being asked to work three-hour shifts and each will receive a T-shirt and lunch.
