Lingle invites public comment on state judge nominees

Gov. Linda Lingle is seeking public comment on potential nominees to fill vacancies on the state Intermediate Court of Appeals and the Circuit Court on Oçahu.
The governor will make her selections from lists of nominees provided by the state Judicial Selection Commission. The governor has 30 days from last Friday to make her nominations, which are subject to confirmation by the state Senate.
The nominees for associate judge on the Intermediate Court of Appeals are: Circuit Court Judge Sabrina McKenna; attorney and former district judge Steven Nakashima; deputy public defender Karen Nakasone; state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs director Lawrence Reifurth; and attorney and Kapiçolani Community College adjunct professor Michael Tanigawa.
The nominees for Circuit Court judge are: Family Court Judge R. Mark Browning; District Judge Colette Garibaldi; former U.S. Attorney Edward Kubo, Jr.; attorney and former deputy public defender Lanson Kupau; attorney and former district judge Steven Nakashima; and First Insurance Co. vice president and managing attorney Dean Ochiai.
