Rainbow Wahine basketball falls to BYU; BYUH upsets San Francisco
LA'IE — The Brigham Young women's basketball team scored 31 of the game's first 33 points to run past Hawai'i, 81-44, in this afternoon’s Hukilau Invitational at the Cannon Activities Center.
Meanwhile, BYU-Hawai'i shocked San Francisco, 69-61, in the tournament's other game.
BYU (5-2) was led by Jazmine Foreman's 21 points and finished the two-day tournament 2-0. Julita Bungaite scored 10 points for Hawai‘i (3-5), which finished 1-1 in the tournament and saw its two-game win streak come to an end.
Hawai‘i ended an 8 1/2-minute scoring drought in the first half on Briauna Linton’s free throw that made it 31-3 with 7:29 remaining.
Keisha Kanekoa followed with a 3-point play on the next possession and her 3-pointer made it 34-9 with less than six minutes remaining.
The Cougars then scored the next nine points before Mai Ayabe hit a 3 to put the Rainbow Wahine in double figures with 2:35 remaining.
BYU led 48-16 at halftime.
Division II BYUH (2-2) led by as much as 12 in the second half before San Francisco cut it to 64-61 with 1:46 left on Katy Keating's basket.
The Seasiders then scored the game's final five points for the win over the Dons (3-7).
