RUSTON, La. — Daniel Porter ran for 199 yards and three touchdowns, leading Louisiana Tech to a 55-20 win over San Jose State in the final game for Spartans veteran coach Dick Tomey.

The Bulldogs (4-8, 3-5 Western Athletic Conference) used a season-high 45-point first half to beat the Spartans (2-10, 1-7) and Tomey, who ended his 29-year career with a 183-145-7 record.

Tomey ranks behind only Joe Paterno, Bobby Bowden, Mack Brown and Frank Beamer in active wins by coaches in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Tomey coached 10 years at Hawaii, 14 at Arizona and his last five were at San Jose State.

Porter, who finished with 28 carries, became Louisiana Tech's all-time leading rusher on a 20-yard rush in the fourth quarter, surpassing Jason Cooper (1991-94). The Bulldogs running back finished his with career with 3,352 yards rushing.

Porter also became the second player in school history to have consecutive 1,000 yard seasons. He also b ecame the first Bulldog to rush for three touchdowns in a game since Ryan Moats accomplished the feat in 2004 against SMU.

Trailing 14-7 midway through the opening quarter, Louisiana Tech would tie the game up on a 39-yard touchdown run by Porter, his second of the game.

The Bulldogs took the lead for good on their next possession on D.J. Morrow's 19-yard touchdown pass to Dennis Morris.

Kyle Reed's two-yard touchdown pass to Jalal Beauchman would give the Spartans an early 14-7 lead midway through the first quarter.

A 55-yard interception return for a touchdown by Deon Young along with a 38-yard touchdown reception by Lyle Fitte and Matt Nelson's 39-yard field goal would wrap up the 45-point first half for Louisiana Tech.

Nelson would add another field goal in the third quarter and a school-record 96-yard interception return for a touchdown by Tank Calais would help the Bulldogs score 55 points for the first time since the 2002 season against N evada.

Prior to kickoff, Bulldogs Head Coach and Athletics Director Derek Dooley presented Tomey with a miniature Bulldog as an appreciation gift as he wrapped up his coaching career.
