Junior champion to play for Hawaii Pacific

    Advertiser Staff

     • Ticked-off talk about clock

Alessandro Fossati, an Italian who graduated from the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy in South Carolina, will play for Hawai'i Pacific's golf team this season, the school announced.

Fossati won the International Junior Golf Tour's Champions Gate International and the Des Iles Borromees Junior in Italy this summer.

The Sea Warriors return all but one golfer from last year, including PacWest Newcomer of the Year Connor Rumpf and second-team all-PacWest Adam Istvan.

    FITTING

    PLAY THE RIGHT BALL

More than 300 have taken advantage of the golf ball Fitting Challenges by Bridgestone Golf this month. The final three fittings will be tomorrow at Turtle Bay (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.), Saturday at Roger Dunn Kapi'olani (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and Sunday at Pro Am Golf Shop on Kapi'olani (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

The events are free and similar to club fitting. Golfers need to bring their driver. They receive a two-ball sleeve of the golf balls recommended for their game after the fitting.

Bridgestone technicians use a camera and swing speed monitor to register launch angle, club and ball speed and spin rate. They recommend a Bridgestone ball that should go farther and straighter. The company says that after more than 20,000 fittings, 70 percent increased driving distance by an average of 12 yards.
