Ballots for City Council special election due today

Today is the deadline for voters in Waimanalo, Kailua and Kane'ohe to submit ballots in the special election for City Council District 3.

Eleven candidates are running to fill the vacancy created by the death of Councilwoman Barbara Marshall. who died of cancer on Feb. 22.

The city clerk's office must receive ballots by 6 p.m. today. The only way to submit a ballot today is by dropping it off at the city clerk's office at Honolulu Hale. Walk-in voting sites were closed Tuesday.

Election results will be available sometime after 6 p.m. today at the city Elections Division's Web site, www.honoluluelections.us.

The candidate with the most votes wins. There will be no runoff election, city elections administrator Glen Takahashi has said.
