West Kauai volunteers get national spotlight

The can-do spirit of a group of West Kaua'i residents received national attention yesterday morning.
For just over an hour, the top story on CNN's Web site was about volunteers repairing the access road to Polihale State Park.
The story, reported in The Advertiser on Tuesday, got this CNN headline: "Fed up residents repair road in 8 days — for free."
In February, the state said it didn't have the estimated $4 million needed to repair the access road, which was washed out by December's heavy rains.
Last month, a team of volunteers brought in heavy equipment. They hope to have the road open by the end of the month.
