Honolulu airport parking lot will close next week

Advertiser Staff

The lot at the corner of Aolele Street and Lagoon Drive will close Oct. 6. State airports deputy director Brian Sekiguchi said it will reopen "when we anticipate heavy resident travel."

The lot opened on Nov. 1, 2007.

All cars must be out of the lot by midnight on Oct. 5.

"Airport parking demand is not as pressing of an issue as it was in the past couple of years and after reassessing the situation, this is an opportunity to reduce our operational costs," Sekiguchi said.

The decision comes as the airport is building a new, 1,800-stall parking structure, which is expected to open before the holidays.
