MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. _ Top seed and Olympic gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers won their third straight AVP Crocs Tour Manhattan Beach Open today.
Dalhausser and Rogers beat third-seeded Nick Lucena and Sean Scott, 21-16, 21-15, in the final to win the most sought-after title in beach volleyball. They join three teams who have won at least three straight Manhattan Beach Opens, including the legendary teams of Mike Dodd/Tim Hovland and Karch Kiraly/Kent Steffes.
"Thats illustrious company," Rogers said. "If you follow beach volleyball history, Manhattan means a lot."
Rogers and Dalhausser won $100,000 matching the largest winners check in beach volleyball history and the Crocs Cup, the AVP season-long championship.
Overall this year, Dalhausser and Rogers won 11 of the 14 AVP Crocs Tour events they played and four international events, including the gold medal. This is the 17th of 18 events on the AVP Crocs Tour schedule and the final team event.
"Its a long season," said a visibly fatigued Rogers. "Physically, emotionally, were tired. Were ready for an offseason."
