Track and field: Spotakova sets world javelin record

STUTTGART, Germany — Barbora Spotakova of the Czech Republic has set a world record in the women's javelin with a throw of 237 feet, 2 inches (72.28 meters) at the World Athletics Final.
The Olympic champion set the record in her first throw Saturday.
The previous record was held by Osleidys Menendez of Cuba, who threw 235 feet, 3 inches (71.70 meters) at the 2005 world championships in Helsinki, Finland.
