There will be puppies on parade this morning at the Da Kine Canine Festival in Kailua from 8 to 11 a.m.
The festival is being held to point out the health benefits of walking your pet and to generate awareness for missions that promote the rescue and adoption of homeless dogs.
The nonprofit shelters Hawaii Dog Foundation and Friends for Life will bring dogs to the festival, available for adoption.
The parade of costumed dogs will include contest categories such as owner/pet look-alike, cutest, funniest, most original and best nonmotorized float. Starting at 9:30 a.m., the dogs will go on a four-block roundtrip around Kailua Town Center.
Otherwise, the dogs can be found in the parking structure behind Longs Kailua where the farmers market is held on Thursdays.
All dogs must be socialized, vaccinated and on a leash at all times. They should also wear ID tags.
