NBA: Yi Jianlian showing promise with Nets

The Record (Hackensack N.J.)
Yi Jianlian went up strong, but had his fourth-quarter shot stuffed by Joel Anthony and Dwyane Wade. Yi didn't wilt, though, and made a huge shot late.
Rookie center Brook Lopez struggled on both ends of the floor. But when the game was on the line, he stood tall on both ends.
The Nets' two big off-season acquisitions earned some important on-the-job training in Sunday's 94-92 preseason win over the Miami Heat in London they hope will go a long way when the regular season starts.
"When you talk about the exhibition season, this really served a great purpose — game situation and both teams wanted to win, dealing with mistakes and yet staying with it," coach Lawrence Frank said in a conference call after the Nets ended their Euro trip 2-0. "I thought both those guys by fighting through mistakes and the whole team supporting and being together, these were good lessons."
Yi, making his Nets' debut, had 17 points, including a 16-foot jumper over Anthony with 1:29 left to tie the game. Lopez, playing his first NBA game, had eight points and 13 rebounds, including seven offensive.
After the Nets tied it, Yi and Lopez contested an Anthony shot — Lopez was credited with the block. And on the other end, they both seemed to tap in a Vince Carter miss. Lopez was credited with the score that put the Nets up for good.
Frank held Yi and Lopez out of the first preseason game because he wanted to give other guys minutes. The two 20-somethings impressed in their debuts.
Yi and Lopez were going to be in the rotation, but the Nets have seven power forward/centers and not all of them can play. They used six on the trip. Veteran Eduardo Najera, out with a sprained left wrist, also is expected to be in the rotation. It's likely the Nets will have to trade one or more at some point. Until then, Frank must figure out who plays.
Yi and either Josh Boone or Lopez will start. But the Nets also have Sean Williams, Stromile Swift and Ryan Anderson, who can play both forward positions.
"We're going to decide at a certain time who's going to get the regular minutes and who won't," Frank said. "But you (had) better fight your tail off if you're getting those minutes to maintain them."
