MLB: Indians exercise Carroll's $2.5 million option

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Indians exercised their $2.5 million option Thursday on utility infielder Jamey Carroll.
Acquired in December in a trade with Colorado for a minor league pitcher, Carroll batted .277 and played 113 games for the Indians. He hit 13 doubles, four triples, one homer, scored 60 runs and drove in 36.
Carroll has a .273 career average in seven major league seasons.
If the option had been declined, the Indians would have had to pay Carroll a $150,000 buyout.
