Sharks, Honu win winter baseball

Josh Stinson teamed with three relievers on a three-hitter as the Honolulu Sharks beat the Waikiki BeachBoys, 3-1, yesterday in Hawaii Winter Baseball at Hans L'Orange Park.
Stinson (2-0) worked four shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out three in the seven-inning game.
Dominic Brown and Darin Holcomb each had two hits for the Sharks (6-3-1).
Yonder Alonso homered with one out in the top of the seventh for the BeachBoys (4-6).
In the late game, Kurt Mertins hit a three-run homer as the North Shore Honu beat the West Oahu CaneFires, 13-6.
Mertins finished with four RBIs and three runs scored. Matt McBride added a two-run homer and Kyle Martin a solo shot for the Honu (3-6).
Kyle Peter led the CaneFires' (6-4) 14-hit offense with a 3-for-3 performance that included a two-run triple.

LAJOLA FALLS SHORT
University of Hawai'i sophomore Dennis Lajola lost to Wil Spencer of Texas A&M, 6-4, 6-2, yesterday in the finals of the qualifying draw at the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.

DIXIE BEATS HILO
Katie Luna had 21 kills as host Dixie State defeated Hawai'i-Hilo, 26-24, 25-18, 19-25, 11-25, 15-7, yesterday in a Pacific West Conference match at St. George, Utah.
Dixie State is 7-9 overall and 3-3 in the PacWest.
Fabiane Seben had 19 kills, Josimara Pinheiro 12 and Mary Claire Bolo 10 for Hilo (14-6, 3-3).
SOCCER
HILO BEATS CHAMINADE
Adele Letro scored two goals and assisted on another as Hawai'i-Hilo beat visiting Chaminade, 5-0, last night in a non-conference women's match at Kea'au High School field.
Alyssa Salvador also scored two goals and Jessica Snell one for Hilo (6-3).
Marissa Minor made 10 saves for Chaminade (1-7).
