HALEAKALA
Wilderness service trip into crater this weekend

Volunteers are needed this weekend to preserve native habitat in the wilderness of Haleakala Crater.

The service trip sponsored by the Friends of Haleakala National Park will run Saturday through Monday at Holua Cabin. In addition to helping the environment, organizers said, there will be time for hiking, photography or just relaxation.

Participants will stay for free in the cabin and must be able to hike in and out of the crater carrying a sleeping bag and a share of the food. The service trip is limited to 12; for reservations, call 248-7660.
