Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team scored twice in the final four minutes to beat Cal State Fullerton, 3-2, last night in a non-conference match at Fullerton, Calif.

The Rainbow Wahine (4-4-3) trailed 2-1 when a cross from in close looped over the head of Titans (5-5-1) goalkeeper Margaret Dupes toward the back right post. The ball then deflected off a Fullerton player into the net.

Soon after, a foul was called against a Fullerton player just outside the box on the right side. Sophomore defender Nicole Mikula took the free kick, bending the ball into the leftside netting from about 20 yards for the go-ahead score at the 88:45 mark.

Mari Punzal put the Rainbow Wahine ahead 1-0 at the 10:20 mark when she took a pass from Taryn Fukuroku and shot it into the net from the top of the box.

Goals by Tamara Dewey (28:15) and Arion Ingram (39:13) gave the Titans a 2-1 lead at the half.

Kori Lu made four saves for the 'Bows as Fullerton outshot Hawai'i 19-9, including 6-4 on shots on goal.

The Rainbow Wahine will play an alumnae team Saturday at 7 p.m. at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
