MLB: Mets' Santana undergoes successful knee surgery

Associated Press

NEW YORK — New York Mets left-hander Johan Santana has had arthroscopic surgery on torn cartilage in his left knee.

Santana tore his meniscus before his final start but still pitched a shutout last Saturday on short rest against the Florida Marlins to temporarily keep the Mets' playoff hopes alive.

The team says in a release today that Santana is expected to be ready for spring training.

He went 16-7 with a 2.53 ERA after coming over from the Minnesota Twins in February in a blockbuster trade. The two-time AL Cy Young Award winner is in the first season of a $137.5 million, six-year contract.
