LANA'I
Rainstorms extinguish five-day, 1,000-acre fire
Rainstorms have soaked the remnants of a 1,000-acre brushfire on Lana'i.
Fire Battalion Chief Jamie Joyo said this weekend's rains extinguished the five-day-old fire.
The flames briefly threatened the Four Seasons Resort Lana'i at Manele Bay, causing the evacuation of 600 employees, guests and nearby residents.
But the fire was held back, and it was considered contained by Friday.
Lana'i recorded 0.65 inches of rain over a 12-hour stretch Saturday.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
