AUCKLAND, New Zealand — Jang Hyon Sun scored to give North Korea a 2-1 overtime victory over the United States on Sunday in the FIFA under-17 Women's World Cup final.
The United States took the lead after just 2 minutes when a long throw-in bounced awkwardly in front of the North Korean goal, struck defender Hong Myong Hui and looped over the goalkeeper's outstretched arms into the net.
Kim Un Hyang tied it for North Korea in the 77th minute.
The first period was scoreless and the North Koreans were running into a strong wind in the second when Jang scored the winner.
North Korea was 6-0 en route to the title.
Germany beat England 3-0 in the third-place game.
