Groundbreaking signals help on the way for West Oahu drivers

The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands this morning broke ground on the $17.3 million East-West Connector Road that will join 'Ewa and East Kapolei.
The road is expected to help ease the load on heavily congested Fort Weaver Road. It also will tie in with DHHL's East Kalaeloa projects as well as the planned University of Hawai'i at West O'ahu campus.
At a joint ceremony, community officials and the Salvation Army blessed the forthcoming Kroc Community Center, which will stand at the corner of East-West Road and the upcoming North-South Road.
Both the East-West Road and Kroc Center are expected to be done in about 18 months, or late 2009.
