A sneak peek at HIFF showcase

The Hawaii International Film Festival celebrates its 11th Spring Showcase next month at the Regal Dole Cannery with more than 20 new movies.
HIFF screens movies for its Spring Showcase April 18-24; the main festival is in the fall.
Members can buy Spring Showcase tickets April 7, before they go on sale to the public on April 11; prices are $10 ($9 for students, seniors, children, military and members). Purchase at the box office, 680 Iwilei Road, Suite 100. Information: 550-8457 or www.hiff.org.
Chuck Boller, HIFF's executive director, said the showcase has grown "quite a bit."
The full lineup of films will be announced tomorrow, but here's a sneak peek:
Opening night: "Always: Sunset on Third Street 2." This sequel to Japan's smash hit film (which also opened the 2006 Spring Showcase) picks up in the spring of 1959. The Tokyo Olympics has been announced, and Chagawa still loves Hiromi though she has left.
Making Hawai'i premieres:
The closing-night film is "Mongol," (Germany, Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan), recounting the early life of Genghis Khan. Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano stars and Sergei Bodrov directs.
K-DRAMA SYNOPSES
'BRIDE FROM VIETNAM'
Episodes 59 and 60.
Tonight at 7: Ok-kyong learns that Ji-young blackmailed Se-mi with the contract given to Hope Grocers. Ok-kyong finds out it was not Ji-young but Sung-il who gave the job to the Kang's family business.
Tonight at 8: Jin-ju and her mom have a reunion at the airport. The whole family welcomes Jin-ju's mom and thanks her for giving them a good daughter.
'KING & I'
Episodes 43 and 44.
Tomorrow at 7:45 p.m.: Chuh-sun confronts Han-su about Jung Sook-yong's miscarriage, but Han-su denies everything, and threatens that he could put the queen in danger.
Tuesday at 7:45 p.m.: So-hwa is devastated when she sees the king and Eol-Woo-Dong locked in a loving gaze. She tells the king to return to the palace, but the king tells her he'll protect Eol-Woo-Dong.
'BAD GUY'
Episodes 11 and 12
Wednesday at 7:45 p.m.: Dal-lae informs Oh-joon's "boxing fitness" class that he'll be temporarily unavailable. Oh-joon comes back to Dal-lae from the police station, while Jin-goo confronts Dal-lae about making the wrong decision.
Thursday at 7:45 p.m.: While Oh-joon is concerned about his health, Jin-goo's father gives him an ultimatum.
'SCARY GIRL'
Episodes 41, 42 and 43, 44.
Friday at 7:45 p.m.: Eun-ae storms out when she sees her father and Young-rim together.
Saturday at 7:45 p.m.: Young-rim is shocked to find Kyung-pyo outside her door. However, Kyung-pyo doesn't leave even when Young-rim threatens to call Eun-ae.
