SAIPAN, Northern Marianas — The Marianas islands governor has signed an extradition order to send Japanese businessman Kazuyoshi Miura from Saipan to Los Angeles for trial in the death of his wife 24 years ago.

Gov. Benigno Fitial signed the order for Miura who has been held in the U.S. territory since last month.

Miura's case has been compared in Japan to that of O.J. Simpson for the frenzy of attention it has attracted from Japanese news media.

The prosecutor says Miura's lawyers still could challenge the extradition.

Miura's attorney Mark Geragos says he hopes extradition from Saipan could be delayed.

He says Miura faces double jeopardy since he was already convicted of the 1984 crime by a Japanese court. But that conviction was overturned in 1994.
