A 24-year-old woman hiker who suffered head and hand injuries in a fall today at the tide-pool area near the Makapu'u lighthouse was brought out by the Honolulu Fire Department helicopter and turned over to city Emergency Medical Services personnel at Sandy Beach park at 3:05 p.m.

HFD spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said city lifeguards used jet skis to reach the woman and attended to her injuries with firefighters. The first responders were notified of the incident at 2 p.m., Seelig said.

Seelig said the woman fell about 15 feet off the hiking trail.
