Authorities are investigating the theft of mail from 132 mail boxes at three Makiki apartment buildings on Kina'u Street between 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, and 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 4.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service sent out notification letters advising residents to check for fraudulent activity on bank accounts and credit cards. Victims of this incident, case number 9120809, can call 877-876-2455 or report losses online at http://postalinspectors.uspis.gov.

Victims will need to provide the Inspection Service with documentation of the fraudulent transactions.

Police are also investigating. A Honolulu CrimeStoppers bulletin issued today seeks information on the Caucasian suspect, a man in his 20s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 180 pounds. No photograph was available.

Sgt. Kim Buffet, the CrimeStoppers coordinator, said it appears the mail boxes were randomly selected and the suspicion is the man may have been looking for economic stimulus payment checks.
