Accident causes blackout on Kauai

Advertiser Staff

A power failure today in Lihu'e was caused by a tractor-trailer snagging lines and splitting a utility pole in half, Kaua'i County officials said.

The 7:47 a.m. blackout affected some residents and businesses, and closed one lane of Nawiliwili Road near Anchor Cove Shopping Center for 90 minutes.

Kaua'i Island Utility Cooperative crews put up a new pole. Hawaiian Telcom and Oceanic Time Warner Cable service were also affected.
