Motorist, 77, killed in collision involving car and horse

Advertiser Staff

A 77-year-old man was killed early today on Maui's Kula Highway in a collision between a car and horse.

Maui police vehicle homicide unit commander Lt. Bobby Hill identified the victim as Frank N. Williamson of Pukalani, who died at the scene. The death was Maui's third traffic fatality of the year as compared to two on the same date in 2007.

The collision occurred at 4:43 a.m. on Kula Highway, a half-mile south of mile post 14.

Investigators said Williamson was driving a 1994 Chrysler Concord sedan toward Ulupalakua when it struck the horse, which was in the roadway.

The horse also died at the scene, police said.
